Celebrating Book Week In Lockdown

Celebrating Book Week In Lockdown

Last year due to lockdown the Australian Children’s Book Council deferred Book Week to October so most states could celebrate in some way in the school environment. This year the ACBC have announced that their will be no rescheduling meaning that for some Book Week will be celebrated during home learning.

No doubt teachers have plans around how to give your child the best Book Week experience under the circumstances, but if not, I have complied some resources and ideas for you to celebrate Book Week at home.

Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds.

I love this year’s book week theme, it gives so many options for costumes. The best thing about Book Week in the comfort of your own homes is that costumes don’t have to be weather appropriate.
Here are some suggestions.

Old Worlds: Vikings, pirates, dinosaurs, historical figures, princesses.

New Worlds: the divergent series, anything futuristic, robots.

Other Worlds: fairies, Harry Potter, Narnia, Alice in Wonderland.

As for activities the ACBC provides great teaching resources to accompany the short-listed books, I have linked some of these below as well as a link to a video of a read aloud of each book, so you don’t need to own the books to enjoy them.
